About Milia

Milia Cavallaro is a flautist & piccolo player, instrumental tutor, and conductor with a strong passion for inclusive, high-quality music education.

Milia completed a Double Degree in Music and Education at the University of New South Wales in 2014, majoring in Flute. Since graduating, she has worked across a wide range of schools throughout Sydney. From 2014 to 2019, Milia served as a Program Manager, overseeing instrumental band programs across multiple primary schools while also conducting ensembles and tutoring students. Since 2020 she has worked in high schools and continues to follow her passion for teaching students from primary age through to high school and beyond.

From 2021, Milia has performed in a wide range of musical theatre productions, working both as a primary performer and deputy. Her credits include Mary Poppins, The Addams Family, Seussical the Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel. Across these productions, Milia performed in the Reed 1 position, covering piccolo, flute, recorder, clarinet, alto and soprano saxophone.

In 2023, Milia produced her first annual student concert at The Flute Tree in Leichhardt, which was a wonderful success. Students were given opportunities to perform solos (with and without accompaniment), duets, trios, and flute choir works. The concert also featured specially arranged flute choir pieces for Piccolo, Flute, Alto Flute, and Bass Flute. This concert has since become a yearly event offered to all Music with Milia students, celebrating performance, growth, and community.

In 2025, Milia was awarded her Level 4 Diploma of Performance Certificate (ATCL) with Trinity College London, recognising her ongoing commitment to performance excellence alongside her teaching career.

Thoughout her teaching career, Milia remains an active performer. She is the Principal Flute for the Inner West Community Band, where she is also a committee member, and is Principal Piccolo with The FilmHarmonia Orchestra. She also regularly accompanies HSC students on bass for performances and assessments.

When she isn’t teaching or practising, Milia enjoys reading fantasy novels, walking her cavoodle Iggy, and playing games. And when she’s not doing any of those things, she’s likely (not-so-secretly) dreaming about her next trip to Disneyland!
